We enjoyed our visit to this Cheddar's. The restaurant was busy but we were seated immediately and not long after we were seated our waiter came for drink orders. Nick, our waiter, was very attentive, polite and friendly yet professional. I did not see anyone working there that looked 14 so perhaps that is why I missed out on the love fest, (I would have filmed that for you all). All but one of the employees I saw were kept busy and acted professional. There was one, ( a hostess I believe), who was possibly bored (?), and decided to amuse herself by plastering her face to the glass partition while making a few fishy type faces at the diners. While this may have counted as entertainment to some, I would have preferred the love fest that I could have filmed. Admit it. If I had been able to film that you would have watched. I took off a star for the bad entertainment. Other than that, the place was clean, the food was good and reasonably priced, Nick was awesome....I would recommend it to others.

I do not understand why there's always such a long wait time for a table at this restaurant. After several attempts to dine there im the evenings, my wife and I ate there on a Sat. afternoon, a time when the wait was shorter than a half hour. Our table was not wiped off, and silverware was "available upon request" after our appetizer arrived. The food was OK, and our server was fine. Compared to other Fairview Heights restaurants, the decor is nice: it features a fish tank. It's hard to justify the slightly overpriced entrees (fries NOT included with burgers?) for a view of some fish. Not sure if it was the greasy onion rings or some other factor, but my wife became sick to her stomach later in the evening. I hesitate to place the entire blame for this on Cheddars, but it will prevent us from revisiting.

Server was polite and engaging. Food seemed fresh and fast. Drinks from the bar were a little disappointing...slow to arrive and a bit over-priced. All in al: just get the ribs. Skip the margarita. Enjoy the pop music blasting over the speakers. We heard Britney and Gaga.

I read all these reviews and was prepared to be let down. The food service was slow like the other reviewers stated. I was hoping that would have been corrected by now. However, our server Victoria handled the delay very well. She kept checking back with us and acknowledged the delay. She even brought us a plate with three fresh croissants to eat while we wait for our entrees. I thought this was a nice touch. Also, she said, "I'm really sorry, I know it's been 30 minutes since you ordered." We weren't too put out, we were enjoying our cocktails and each others company. Victoria kept this review from being 2 stars, but I still couldn't give it four stars. However, if the review was ONLY about her, it would have been 5 stars. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was good, standard American fare. Prices are very reasonable and nice choice of drinks. I wish they would do like some other chains are doing and include some local craft beers on the menu, but not a big deal.

This was my first time at Cheddar's, and it was not a very good impression. Decor was really nice and we got seated very quickly by the hostess, who looked to be all of 14. Our waitress arrived and that's when it went downhill. Maybe she was new, IDK, but it took her 3 trips to our table before she was ready to take our order. I asked for a beer to be brought with the meal and not beforehand and she assured me that was not a problem. I was wanting a burger but was told sides were extra, so I went with catfish instead. Wanted a kids meal for my grandson and was informed sides for those were extra as well. What next; extra for silverware? There were no crayons or colouring books for kids to keep them busy or child sized utensils either. Anyways, the food came quick and was tasty. Portion size was very good as well. The waitress came back to check on us after about 10 minutes, at which time my wife was able to inform her that the dressing for her salad, which was supposed to be on the side, was non-existent. About 7 minutes later she came back with the oil and vinegar. We were able to finish our meal and then wait another 10 minutes or so for her to ask if we were ready for our check. During that time we we able to watch as one of the male staff came up to the hostess station and was able to give long, lingering full body hugs to the 14yo and 4 others who had gathered at the front door. When he left, the girls continued the hug fest, in between customers coming in. Such love amongst the staff! 8 minutes later the check arrived, but not before 2 other tables had to go up to hug central and ask for their server, too. Going over the bill, at least I didn't get charged for the beer that is still in their tap! Overall, I feel this place is overrated, and it'll probably be quite awhile before I go there again. By the way, if you've happened to live a long life or have served our county, they don't care. Neither senior not military discounts are offered. Bottom line; food was a hit, service was $h!+!

Was pretty excited to try this place. The first time I went the service was slow. Food was great! Second time I went I had done an order for carry out. Got home both me and my husbands orders were wrong!!! Called the manager he resolved it by giving us two free entries and a free desert. Again used it on carry out... Order was right food was good! Man did I get sick after eating it!! I know it was due to what I ate because it wasn't even an hour after eating I was throwing up!!! Needless to say decent service in the front of the house. Back of the house needs some work. Management was great. Atmosphere good. Though after how sick I got I don't believe I can ever eat there again!

A decent meal. We came on a holiday so it was busy, but no hiccups for us. Maybe they've gotten the kinks worked out from being new. We had steak and shrimp. Both were cooked just right and seasoned well. Plus they serve edamame as a side which is nice. We got the crescent rolls at $2.49 for 3, which seems kind of high, but they are flaky like croissants and nicely sweet. Delicious. They are a chain restaurant so I'm sure there's no gourmet chefs working in the back--probably a bunch of Mexicans running their asses off. Basically don't get your hopes up too high. The prices are reasonable and pretty decent food.

I, too, am surprised at the bad reviews. I love Cheddar's, and I'm so glad they're finally in this area. My first experience was in northern Illinois during Special Olympics coaches training. Holy delish!! Ours in FVH has even nicer decor and is comfortable. My first trip was right when they first opened--about 9 months ago. The reviews talking about slow, long waits, etc.--well, that's to be expected! They had JUST opened, and everyone and their grandma was there to check it out. Even so, we found a high top and ate in the bar. Even with the crowd, our server was attentive and prompt. We never waited for service, and he was quick to refill drinks and check on us. This last time, we went in for lunch, and the waitress was fantastic. Even though it's only on the kids' menu, she was more than accommodating and let me get the cherry tomatoes with light ranch as my side with my chicken sandwich. She brought refills without asking, and she was very attentive. The menu is huge and SO reasonable--especially considering the food and decor is steps above your typical Applebee's or other chain restaurant. Everything we had was delicious with generous portions! I will happily go back!

A friend and I decided to go to the new Cheddar's because she had never been there, and I only once. After waiting 35 minutes we were seated by a very nice hostess and that is probably the only positive aspect of our trip. Our Waiter Jhaaron was less than knowledgeable about the menu, unable to answer any questions we had about the food. After bringing only one drink and completely forgetting about the other we were less than pleased. He was also unable to suggest anything for us and it was quite easy to tell that his answers were mere guesses. We ended up asking other passing waiters and waitresses for things we needed because our server came by the table multiple times without the food we had ordered. We both agreed that we would not be back to Cheddar's, as it was a very dissatisfying experience.

We went opening weekend, and maybe we should not have, as the food was terrific, but our service was poor. We're hoping it's just growing pains, so if we ever go back, I'll post a new review. Here's what we encountered: - First, we tried to go for lunch after 1pm, but they were closed til 3pm. Not sure why, as another person looked at the sign and told us when they opened, but on Father's Day, we were hoping to celebrate it there for lunch. - We decided to compromise and eat dinner after 8pm, as my BF was psyched to eat there. Quick wait time of 10 mins to get in to the restaurant (better than the 1-1.5 hrs we were quoted just hours before) was very nice. - Interior is very nice looking; very chic. Lighting is a bit dark, but ambiance is very fancy for its low prices. - Took 10 mins after sitting for staff to take our drink orders, and since we had been sitting there so long, we ordered our food with drinks. BTW, our order was not taken by the service staff assigned to our table. We didn't meet our waitress until she came to our table apologizing for not getting to us earlier. Ok, apology accepted. Let's give her a chance. - Drink came out wrong for my partner, so that had to be corrected. - While waiting for our food, we watched a large party get food served to them, and they were seated 10 mins after us. To be fair, I'm hoping all they got was appetizers; otherwise, our wait time of 25 mins for our food while they got theirs in 10 is ridiculous. - We get our food. Mine looks good, but they forgot one side on my partner's meal. Our waitress didn't serve us, but the other staff member who did went off to get the side. While we wait for it to come, our waitress asks if everything is great. Food's good, but he didn't get a side. Her explanation, "They've been messing up all day back there." What? Ouch. Talk about team spirit. She doesn't seem too worried about it, though, as she goes to another table to take their orders. - We finally get side, but drink refill took a while. - Food was actually very tasty and flavorful, so kudos to the cook staff! - Request check and when my copy to sign is returned (after a longer than usual wait), no pen is left for me. Luckily, I carry one with me, so I was able to pay. Again, I sincerely hope that the service was shaky due to it being the first weekend and nothing else, as that's not a good first impression for Fairview Heights. Food was really tasty and worth the price, though. Will it take us back there again? Maybe...

I understand that this place has just opened in the last month, so that could have much to do with my experience. The place is beautiful, and nicely decorated, so that was a plus! My friend ordered a featured pomegranate margarita, and ordered it frozen with a sugar rim. It came on the rocks with salt, and it was terrible. All sweet and sour mix. We sent it back and got it taken off the bill. Onion rings were good, and there's a lot of them for the cheap price, so that was also a plus. My friend ordered the pot roast. The server said it was the best thing they have, and that it was made with veal. I found that to be odd, because the menu just says its made with beef, and did not specify veal. It also seemed awfully cheap to be veal. Honestly, our server didn't know much about the menu at all, so we didn't pressure her for more info. If it is made with veal, don't you think that should be stated? It's a bit of a controversial item for some, and I know some people would not want to eat it. Either way, it was pretty bland and the celery that was in it was raw. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger. The menu says they're cooked medium-well, but I ordered it medium. It came out well done and under seasoned. It didn't taste like anything at all. I thought a burger would be a safe bet, but it was not good at all. The caesar salad that came with our meal was drenched in dressing. It actually dripped off the lettuce when you picked it up, making it completely soggy. When the server noticed my burger was on a quarter eaten she asked if it was ok. I told her that it was not good (overcooked and under seasoned). I expected her to apologize for the inconvenience, and offer something else. Instead, she agreed that it wasn't good and told me that she didn't like that burger either, and other customers were complaining about them as well. Don't you think I would have liked to have known that!? A good server would have had recommendations and would have steered me away from that item. Without offering anything else, she says to me well next time you come back get something other than a burger. Now she was young, and didn't really know any better, so I don't even think she realized what she said, but trust me when I say there probably won't be a "next time". I'm thankful it was at least cheap. On a side note: A few of their drinks are limited to two per guest. I asked why and was told because they're very "strong". I don't like being told what to do, so that irritated me. Apparently you can order as many martinis as you want and get wasted, but you can't have more than two fruity cocktails with only one kind of liquor! Apparently when you request to have more than two of these the manager has to come over and see if you're too drunk before he/she approves it. I envision table side sobriety tests. If the margarita was any indication of their drink quality, don't worry. No one is getting drunk here.

Very nicely decorated restaurant, very busy lunch crowd... but very worst burger I've had in years. Some confusion about our order caused a delay so the burger was in the "oven" ( warmer) for about 20 minutes. Burger was extremely dry, had a small amount of cheese on it. They left the onion off entirely. Menu states 1/2 pound burger. Seemed like 1/4 pound size to me. I get half pound burgers at many restaurants, this was much smaller. The hamburger was very compressed like it had been frozen, and not the taste of good quality ground beef. I did like the Cheddar's sauce. The manger came and talked with us about the delay in getting our food, he said he would be back once we got our food but he never returned. They did not charge for my meal so that was nice. I will probably never go back there. Too many good places to eat without taking a chance of returning to place that you were not satisfied with.

Our party of seven was seated quickly at 11:30am on a Sunday, but that was the only thing that happened quickly. The bar was 'busy" with ten orders according to the server so it took 15 minutes to get a drink. The appetizers came out at 10 minute intervals even though they were all ordered at the same time. The only reported good tasting food were the monte cristo sandwiches. The fish tacos, grilled salmon, cajon pasta and chicken alfredo were all described as marginal and the broccoli sides were worse that microwaved frozen vegetables. All of this would have discouraged a return visit but, when we told the server we were celebrating our 12 year old daughters birthday, we were told they don't do anything for birthdays. We then ordered some chocolate ice cream so the kids would have something and they brought vanilla with chocolate sauce that looked and tasted like it had been in the freezer for six months.

Lets start with the positive. Its a great location and the facility is lovely. That's it. I have been to this restaurant twice, about a month apart. The first experience was with a group of six other ladies from my church for lunch, during the middle of the week. We purposely planned a late lunch and the restaurant was not too crowded when we arrived. We got a table very quickly. The waitress took our orders fairly quickly but then it took about 20 minutes for us to get our drinks. We watched other tables come in, order, get their food, pay and leave all before we got our salads. We timed it. It took over an hour to get our food and one of the meals was forgotten completely. That took another 30 minutes. We asked for the manager. The "manager" was barely out of high school and talked to us like we were stupid. His opening line "Hi Girls", didn't help him. We complained about the long wait and he said it was because we had a large group, that their computers were messed up, because the waitress was new, etc. All BS. Our group was no larger that two of the other groups that came in, ate, and finished before we even got our food. He finally comped our meals but only after I asked for his card and the card for the general manager. Fast forward a month, my husband and I decided to give it another try for dinner. It was really no different. The service was very slow, the food mediocre. We decided to try it again because new restaurants frequently have a few kinks in their processes to work out. This restaurant has a lot of work to do. I really don't understand why there is such a problem. Its a chain that I have been to before and been very happy with. Shouldn't they have this down by now? I would not go there.

I've been to other Cheddar's locations and I really like the decor of this one, but it seems to be having an identity crisis. Cheddar's is known for good, cheap food and this place seems a little swanky for that with the low lighting and dark wood, but who cares, LOL, it's a nice neighborhood restaurant that I can frequent often because the prices and food are great!. This location just opened a couple days ago so it's currently super busy and kinda disorganized. The kitchen seems to be doing a good job though. Our server was a bit spacey and keep repeating what we ordered every time she came to check on us which I guess is their policy, but it's weird. I didn't like the first drink I ordered so I barely touched it and ordered another one. The first drink sat on our table the whole time, but our server never asked if there was anything wrong with it and she didn't take it away. All in all it was a decent experience. I will be back again when they have the kinks ironed out. I am happy we finally have a Cheddar's in the area.

This was our first trip to this new restaurant and we will definitely be going back. Although when we visited it was the start of dinner service and the wait time was an hour. I also really liked the ambiance and the decor of the restaurant. Lots of brick and mortar, also a lot of rich dark colored stained wood. The lighting was well done also. Lets move on to the dining experience. I will start out with the Cons...there is only just a couple. We had to sit in a booth, and I hate booths, one because I feel like I am trapped, and two they are just not comfortable. Now this booth fit the 5 of us pretty well and was overall comfortable, but I would've preferred a table. Now for the pros - We met our waitress Catilyn and she made us feel at home. We were there to celebrate a birthday, so we asked if the restaurant does anything special for birthdays and she explained the "birthday policy", which in a nut shell, they don't because their prices are low to being with. She put our drink orders in, and they arrived pretty quick, my drink was the last to arrive, not show how that happens, but I think she may have gotten side tracked, but no biggie as it followed behind the others only by a couple mins. The food was amazing. I ordered the Ribs & Tenders with Caesar Salad, loaded baked potato and their broccoli cheese casserole. The chicken tenders were fresh cut chicken and hand breaded, these were not the frozen ones like you get a McDonalds or other places. They were juicy and super tender, and the cuts were not your standard 4 oz portion. The caesar salad was amazing also, they serve an amazing croissant roll with the salads, super flaky and buttery, absolutely amazing. The ribs were delicious, they had awesome flavor, but i was expecting fall off the bone tender, they were not chewy by any means, but they were a little dry in my opinion, and maybe it might be the way they cook the ribs also. The only let down was the loaded baked potato and i had this expectation that the potato was going to be loaded with toppings, along with butter and sour cream, yeah for starters the potato was not even really hot, i would gauge the temperature at luke warm, and they topped the potato with only butter, sour cream, and cheese. The potato was no big loss, as I was enjoying the other parts of my meal. Everyone else as the table enjoyed their meals also. My wife ordered the fish tacos and they looked good, and tasted good. I didn't try a bite of hers. My daughter ordered a bacon cheeseburger and the thing was huge. My stepson ordered the buffalo chicken strips and they were done the same way that my chicken tenders were done, hand cut, and hand breaded, then soaked in a buffalo chicken wing sauce. My stepsons girlfriend ordered a chicken wrap and she said that it was good too. Overall I think we had a pretty good experience and will definitely go back after the newness continues wearing off. Waiting an hour for a table is not my idea of fun and excitement.

I feel like I'm piling on. Hair! Hair is the major complaint. You know how when you know it's yours its kind of gross but when it is obviously not, it's disgusting! This place is disgusting. If I owned this restaurant, I would fire the manager immediately. The staff is obviously either stressed, or spiteful. It was loud. It was not relaxing. There was food in one of the glasses. The waitress spilled some kind of sauce on the table and just left it. There was three different strands of hair in our meal for six. One of the strands was actually wrapped around a rib. I won't go there again. But I hope it survives so the people that I don't care to eat with are drawn there and leave nicer places more comfortable, appetizing, and safe. It's kind of like walmart. I'm glad walmart does so well because it keeps the less tolerable from shopping elsewhere, for the most part. Go ahead; eat better. Live better.

It was the meal from hell. I ordered a beer. The server came back to tell me they were out of that one. I ordered another. She came back again and told me they were out of that one and three others too.Oh well, I didn't really want anything to drink after all. I ordered their specialty, baby back ribs. No dice, they were out of ribs. I settled for a hamburger. It was ok, nothing to write home about. My wife had a fish taco. Long on taco short on fish. The whole time, people were busing tables and sweeping the carpet all around our table. My wife found this very upsetting. At the end of the meal, the server said she hoped we enjoyed our meal. When my wife said we hadn't the server was baffled "Why not?" She offered to get the manager and declined. A bit later, I changed my mind and asked to see the manager. Two different people went to fetch him. After waiting about five minutes we left. I was pretty upset by this time so I went to Cheddar's website. I tried to fill out their questionnaire but couldn't. It seems when the server tore off my check, she missed the bottom half which contains information Cheddar's requires for you to get to them. Undaunted, I clicked on "Contact us". I told them my sad tale of woe and got a canned reply saying I would be contacted. That was two weeks ago. I'm still holding my breath.

We went back to Cheddar's in Fairview Heights tonight. Our first visit was the day it opened, and we had some issues with food temperature, but the server was attentive and met our every need. We summed it up to "opening day" issues. Well it has been several weeks or more since then and we decide to return. The service tonight was the worse service I ever had at a restaurant. We agreed to let them separate our group of 8 to make it easier on them. They apparently didn't assign a waiter to one of the tables. We had to tell our server and he then went to their table also. One person waited over 45 minutes for a glass of wine. They finally brought her the wrong wine. She sent it back only then to have to go to the bar herself and to be told that they don't even carry the wine she ordered. Shouldn't the server of known that? Food orders were screwed up. Two at our table order the half sandwich/half salad dishes. The third ordered a full sandwich. All of us received half orders. Other salads were ordered with meals and either never came or came when the meal was brought. Two at the other table order half sandwich/half side and were brought whole sandwiches instead. The server never returned to refill drinks or see if anything was needed. We finally asked to speak to a manager when he did finally come back. The manager proceeded to pretty much argue with us and actually said "Well the servers are wearing down and are tired". REALLY? Your going to try and use that excuse. He even argues with us regarding the menu as if we were supposed to know the menu ahead of time! He did finally apologize and said he would comp our meal and would have to bring us a bill for the alcohol (about $15 for 3 drinks). After waiting another 15-20 minutes for him to return, which he never did, we walked out. On the way out we met our server, who I handed over the money for the drinks. I told him that we were disappointed and that he was a terrible server. He tells me, "yeah, well that's your opinion." Again,REALLY? TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE service. And when is it appropriate to argue and make excuses with a very unhappy group of people? Sorry Cheddar's, you lost our business forever.

Wow, if you have three hours to kill and injoy horrible service then this is your kind of place. For everyone else go somewhere else.

Went to the new Cheddars in Fairview Hieghts,IL I have never been to one so I was looking forward to it. Our wait was not to bad, 15 or 20 minutes since there was just my daughter and myself. I like the look of it, very nice decor. Our waiter was friendly and took our order fairly quickly, that is where the good part ends. We both ordered the chicken fried steak, one of their specialties, mine was O.K, my baked potato was barely warm, when my daughter cut into hers it was raw, the waiter apologized and brought her another, it too was raw, third time it came out it was raw again with big chunks of uncooked flour all over it. The manager came to our table and apologized, and offered to make her something else, by this time she had lost her appetite, he did comp my meal and we left. I probably wont go there again.

WORST ribs ... Need a hack saw. Food cold, slow Waiter . Slow manager. Sandwich should of had more flavor . At least raspberry tea was good.
(1)Todd T.
First off we love the Cheddar's in Springfield Missouri but this was nothing like that Cheddar's experience. Our food was served cold, one of our appetizers never came, our first appetizer that did come, the onion rings, weren't supposed to be delivered to our table our waitress said we got them by mistake. The pot pie had no gravy and it it was dry - just chicken and crust. None of the chicken tender platters was even warm. We didn't get our salads until after the meal got there and they didn't have the croissants that come with them. Like some of the other review said there were a lot of servers but seems like they were doing a lot of standing around and talking. We couldn't figure out why we waited 30 minutes when there were four open tables that no one was seated at the entire time. Food quality and service were below par for Cheddar's standards; the manager of this place needs to be fired. They need to close and start all over again. Won't be back, I'm going to Lottawatta, They know how to do it
(2)Courtney C.
This is by far the poorest run restaurant I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. So bad that I actually joined Yelp to write my first review. The list is so numerous: no napkins/utensils given until we asked 4 times, food was cold, 3 out of 5 orders wrong, nothing served at same time, out of Coke (what????), when we asked about our forgotten salads we were told that they were served with our meals because they were sides????, then when they didn't come with our meals we were told they were out of lettuce. The brilliance ensued. Our poor server was so apologetic but it was a disaster. Then the manager comes to table. Ryan. Most incompetent EVER. He never apologized or tried to do anything except say the server was wrong and they did have lettuce, it just wasn't chopped. He then offered to have hot food and salads in 10 minutes as though he was doing us a great favor of sorts. Then to top it off we were charged for things we didn't order. As I was sitting in restaurant writing this review, swearing to never return, and asking for a corporate number another gentleman came over, Brandon. He was exactly what manager should be and at the end of 5 minutes our bill was adjusted and we felt taken care of. He was genuinely apologetic and completely took responsibility for the mistakes. So now I am torn about my review. The food wasn't horrible and our server did her best to deal with things. Then Ryan entered but Brandon saved the day. So if you want to chance eating there I would ask if Brandon is there, if not run.

Went there 25 days ago. Waited 1hour to be seated. Then ordered and waited an hour and a half for food to arrive. Mgr unable to run show. Food actually frozen. Mgr did not offer to comp meal. Filed complaint by email. Got call from Gen Mgr apologized said he would send certs for us to try again. 25 days and still waiting for certs in mail. Just like the food. They just can't deliver. Can't say enought bad. Can't wait till they close ans some other place uses this nice building. Run,run fast, don't look back. Very very bad! Heads should roll or they will all be out when it closes.

Last night we took the family to Cheddars and the service was terrible. Not a busy night by any stretch of the imagination, but it took over a half hour to receive chicken and fish. Now they said they made a dish incorrectly, but the wait staff did not let us know there was a problem, or even come by to check if we needed more to drink. I had to find a floor manager to ask what was going on. Once the food came it was good , but the service was terrible.
